Chapter 13: A Pair of Soul-Stealing Peach Blossom Eyes
For Lin Cheng, every holiday was an ordeal. After spending the entire day dealing with his family’s incessant matchmaking attempts, he felt dizzy and overwhelmed.
Finally, after dinner, he used an urgent matter at the company as an excuse to escape the house.
Although his main purpose was to get out, there really were some matters at Dou Beast Livestream, a subsidiary of his conglomerate, that needed his attention.
He sped along the road at breakneck speed (which, of course, didn’t happen), stuck in traffic that was enough to drive anyone crazy.
By the time Lin Cheng arrived at the company, it was already seven in the evening. The building was brightly lit. Entertainment companies didn’t have holidays.
As he passed the operations director’s office, he heard an operations employee reporting to Operations Director Liu Wenchu:
“There’s a streamer on Maoya Livestream whose traffic is unusually high. I think her name is something like Ya Li?”
Curious for a moment, Lin Cheng walked in.
“President Lin?”
The two immediately stood up.
Lin Cheng waved his hand.
“I’m just taking a look. Carry on.”
Although Lin Cheng said that, the two still gave up the main seat. The junior operations employee stood behind the chair, while Liu Wenchu sat beside it.
Lin Cheng said nothing more and sat down.
The computer monitor displayed a woman whose beauty filter was obviously turned up to the maximum. She looked somewhat familiar.
Hmm… He seemed to have seen this person when he happened to glance at Maoya Livestream’s New Year’s Gala last night.
“Okay, let’s begin!”
The woman blinked her eyes and smiled exceptionally sweetly.
“Step one, turn off the effects~”
The lighting dimmed by three degrees, but the contours of her face became completely clear.
“Step two, turn off the filters~”
Everything returned to reality, as if she had stepped out of a fairy-tale world and back into the real one. Or perhaps it was like going from viewing the world through a gauzy curtain to seeing it with the naked eye.
“Step three, turn off the beauty filter~”
Lin Cheng instinctively held his breath. He heard the two people beside him gasp in astonishment.
At the same time, the barrage of comments racing across the screen proved that they hadn’t seen it wrong.
“Step four, turn off the face-slimming filter~”
—[Holy crap! Holy crap! Holy crap!!!]
—[Lili, marry me!!]
—[I’m losing my mind!!!!!!!!!]
—[What are you all getting excited about? This is obviously proof of plastic surgery!]
—[Am I the only one who still likes Lili’s previous appearance?]
—[Yes, you’re the only one!! And to the hater above, your mom is calling you to do your homework.]
……
“Thank you to Sneaky Heart Thief for the Super Rocket. Thank you, thank you, mwah~”
Her voice hadn’t changed. It was still the same soft, sweet, childlike voice, but somehow, something felt different.
Lin Cheng heard the sound of his own heart pounding violently.
Almost as if possessed, he reached out and took hold of the mouse. He clicked on the Super Rocket displayed on the screen, then clicked the “+” beside it. Next, he moved the mouse and clicked Send.
“Ah, thank you to Three Hundred Warriors for sending ten Super Rockets! Mwah, mwah, mwah~ You really didn’t have to spend so much! I’m embarrassed.”
Before Lin Cheng could click again, a faint voice reached his ears.
“President Lin…”
Lin Cheng turned his head and saw Liu Wenchu looking as if he wanted to speak but didn’t dare. His brows drew together slightly.
“If you have something to say, say it.”
“Um, President Lin, this is my account…”
“Ahem. Right. Ahem. Ask Assistant Chen to reimburse you later.”
Assistant Chen—Chen Zi’an—was responsible for all of Lin Cheng’s work-related affairs.
Liu Wenchu broke into a grin.
“Sure thing, President Lin. Would you like me to switch to your account for you?”
Lin Cheng stood up, no longer looking at the screen.
“I have other matters to attend to. Carry on.”
That woman wasn’t performing some kind of challenge. She was performing magic, transforming a living person right before their eyes.
No, not magic.
A miracle.
All he had to do was close his eyes, and he seemed able to see those misty peach blossom eyes, gazing at him as if she were half-drunk but not quite.
Captivating and soul-stealing.
Liu Wenchu and the junior operations employee watched as President Lin left.
At first glance, President Lin’s steps were as steady and composed as usual. But for some reason, they couldn’t help detecting a faint trace of disarray.
The two exchanged glances, both seeing the strange look in the other’s eyes, along with the blazing flames of gossip.
“Ahem,” Liu Wenchu said. “Don’t tell anyone about this for now. If President Lin gives you trouble later, don’t blame me for not warning you.”
The junior operations employee nodded vigorously, but couldn’t resist asking one more question.
“When can we tell people?”
Liu Wenchu stroked his chin and gave a mischievous grin.
“I think it’ll be soon.”
