Chapter 18: If You Have What It Takes, Leave the Entertainment Industry for Good
Early the next morning, Ling Xiaoli woke up. In the warm, heated room, she didn’t even feel like staying in bed!
With enough warmth, getting up became easy.
She had quite a few things to do today. In the morning, she had to go to the company to complete some formalities, and in the afternoon, she had an audition.
Especially the afternoon audition—that was the most important thing!
So after getting dressed and putting on her makeup, she hurriedly wolfed down two bites of bread and left.
Her long red down jacket looked warm just looking at it in the winter weather.
………
Fifty-plus minutes later, at Maoya Tower.
The person who had called Ling Xiaoli yesterday had told her where to go to complete the formalities. She wasn’t in the mood to look around, so she headed straight to the Comprehensive Management Department on the twelfth floor.
As luck would have it, she ran into two familiar faces when she arrived.
Oh, one and a half familiar faces, to be precise.
Wang Yun and the pink-haired woman, Yuan Yuan, who had been making sarcastic remarks at the New Year’s Gala.
Wang Yun’s presence wasn’t surprising. As Ling Xiaoli’s assistant, she naturally had to keep an eye on the handover to make sure Ling Xiaoli didn’t miss anything.
As for Yuan Yuan, Ling Xiaoli had no idea why she was there, nor did she care to find out.
Ling Xiaoli wasn’t interested in Yuan Yuan, but Yuan Yuan was very interested in her.
“Oh my, oh my, who do we have here? How did you get fired by the company after just one day? Unlike me, I’m about to be upgraded to an A2 contract.”
Ling Xiaoli: ???
Was this woman sick? Had the original Ling Xiaoli offended her somehow?
But an A2 contract? Tsk, the original Ling Xiaoli seemed to have signed an A2 contract too…
Ling Xiaoli smiled. “Well, congratulations.”
Yuan Yuan felt as if her breath had gotten stuck in her throat. She couldn’t swallow it or spit it out, and it was unbearably uncomfortable.
In the past, Ling Xiaoli would definitely have cursed her out, after which Sister Wang would have forcibly stopped her. Wouldn’t that have been entertaining?
But ever since the day before yesterday, Ling Xiaoli had seemed like a completely different person. She had barely said a few words to Yuan Yuan, yet somehow managed to leave her so frustrated she could have died.
Ling Xiaoli no longer paid attention to Yuan Yuan, whose expression kept changing beside her. Instead, she went straight to the company’s human resources department to handle her contract termination and resignation.
The formalities were completed quickly. Perhaps the company was very dissatisfied with her, or perhaps they would cause her trouble later.
But at least, as long as she paid the penalty for breaching her contract, the termination process went smoothly.
Ling Xiaoli, however, felt a sharp pain in her wallet. The ten million yuan she had received just yesterday had flown away before she had even had time to enjoy it.
Wang Yun, meanwhile, didn’t say anything unnecessary from beginning to end. Perhaps yesterday’s events had shaken her so badly that she no longer dared to nitpick.
There seemed to be some resentment hidden in her eyes, though.
Ling Xiaoli didn’t care whether Wang Yun hated her. After completing the formalities, she left without greeting anyone.
The moment she stepped out of Maoya Company, Ling Xiaoli felt an immense sense of relief.
It was as if a massive stone that had weighed her down for a long time had finally been lifted from her shoulders. She felt indescribably free.
In a daze, she seemed to sense that even the fragments of memories inherited from the original owner had grown a little more vivid…
Yuan Yuan stared at Ling Xiaoli’s red-clad figure as she walked away in such a carefree manner, feeling extremely displeased.
Back then, she and Ling Xiaoli had joined the company one after the other. Yet Ling Xiaoli had become far more popular than her, even though Ling Xiaoli hadn’t dared to show her face during her earliest livestreams!
Fortunately, Yuan Yuan had eventually found someone powerful to back her. And because Ling Xiaoli was always going against the company, Yuan Yuan had managed to thrive, even reaching the point where she could trample all over Ling Xiaoli.
Now that Ling Xiaoli had simply walked away, Yuan Yuan couldn’t help feeling frustrated. Whether it was because she had lost an outlet for venting her emotions or because she had always disliked Ling Xiaoli, the result was the same.
Yuan Yuan was in a terrible mood.
She couldn’t help remembering how Ling Xiaoli had always worn a mask whenever she came and went. Yuan Yuan had always assumed that Ling Xiaoli’s real appearance must be extremely ugly.
Who would have thought…
A trace of jealousy flashed through Yuan Yuan’s eyes.
Ling Xiaoli, if you’ve got what it takes, leave the entertainment industry for good. Otherwise, you and I are not done!
