Chapter 63: Expose Yourself
Seeing how casually Ling Xiaoli spoke about it, Keke felt heartbroken.
Her precious Xiaoli had truly been having a difficult time back then, yet she had even gotten angry with Xiaoli. She really shouldn’t have done that.
Keke reached out and hugged Ling Xiaoli, burying her head against Xiaoli’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Xiaoli. I shouldn’t have gotten angry with you before.”
Uh… Keke had a falling-out with the original owner?
She had no idea!
Ling Xiaoli hugged Keke back as well, pondering inwardly. It was probably around the time when the original owner had started considering plastic surgery and was drinking frequently.
“Alright, alright. It’s all in the past! Let’s not talk about it anymore. Keke, hurry and help me think of a way to completely get rid of my original—my family.”
“Mm!”
Keke nodded vigorously. Then she released the hug and began thinking. After a while, she grabbed her hair in frustration.
“Ah, this is so annoying! Your family is different from Zhou Yan. I can threaten Zhou Yan, but how am I supposed to threaten your family?”
Three black lines seemed to appear across Ling Xiaoli’s forehead.
Keke kept talking about threatening people. Could she really come up with a solution?
She sighed and offered her own idea first.
“First of all, I absolutely can’t fall out with my family. We have to resolve this peacefully.
“I’m in the entertainment industry now. If they come making a scene at my workplace, or casually tell reporters something, my career will be over.”
“That’s right,” Keke agreed. “Keep going.”
Ling Xiaoli spread her hands.
“That’s it. I only know that we can’t let things get out of hand. I have absolutely no idea how to resolve it peacefully.”
Keke blinked. Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she blurted out,
“How about you expose yourself first?”
“Huh?” Ling Xiaoli froze.
The more Keke thought about it, the more excited she became.
“Since you can’t think of a way to resolve this peacefully anyway, why not make the whole thing public yourself? We’ll strike first!
“You speak out first and make your story as miserable as possible. Once netizens have a first impression, they’ll naturally side with you. Then we can hire some people to control public opinion!
“After all that, no matter how much your family tries to stir things up, they won’t be able to make any waves!”
Ling Xiaoli was stunned!
“Wait, let me think. Let me think.”
Ling Xiaoli began thinking rapidly.
She had to admit, this method actually seemed feasible!
But soon, she frowned.
“This method could work, but not right now. I’ve already been on the hot search several times recently. If I make the hot search again, whether it’s for something good or bad, it’ll start to wear out people’s goodwill toward me. Not to mention that this kind of matter is inherently very controversial.”
Keke raised both hands in agreement.
The two of them unanimously decided to drag it out for now, preferably until after the movie wrapped, or even better, until after the movie was released.
For the next month or two, Ling Xiaoli could continue giving her family the usual living expenses, but she wouldn’t give them a single cent more!
After making up her mind, Ling Xiaoli edited and posted a message on her Moments, accompanied by a picture of the snowy scenery outside the window:
—Ling Xiaoli: If I just take one more step forward, I can leave all my troubles behind, right?
Visible to family members only.
Oh, Ling Xiaoli went through her entire contact list, found all the people who were supposedly her relatives, and created a new group for them.
………
That night, Ling Xiaoli and Keke talked until two in the morning.
They talked about many things from the past, as well as all the things they wanted to do in the future.
Most of the time, Keke was the one talking, while Ling Xiaoli simply listened.
But it was quite a strange feeling whenever something Keke said occasionally triggered a memory belonging to the original owner. Sometimes, Ling Xiaoli could even add a few words to the conversation.
Regardless, Keke really was a very important person to the original owner.
………
The wind never stopped throughout the night, and neither did the snow. By dawn, the entire world was covered in a blanket of snow, brilliantly white and pure.
Early in the morning, Keke received a phone call. Her company was urging her to return.
Unlike Lin Cheng, who had already taken complete control of his family’s corporation and had every matter running in an orderly manner, Keke was still in the process of learning and familiarizing herself with everything.
She was incredibly busy.
The fact that she had managed to steal some time from her packed schedule to come see Ling Xiaoli was enough to prove just how important Ling Xiaoli was to her.
Fortunately, the snow had only fallen for one night. The next day was clear and sunny.
Breathing in the clean, refreshing air, Keke flew away again.
