Chapter 81: Why Not Just Go See It for Himself?
Although Ling Xiaoli had never met Fang Mei in person, she had seen photos of her before, so she recognized her right away.
Fang Mei was thirty-nine this year, but she looked more like she was thirty-four or thirty-five. Her eyes were fairly large, her nose was slightly flat, and her expression was gentle and warm.
Ling Xiaoli immediately took off her mask and smiled. Before she could say anything, however, Fang Mei spoke first.
“You’re Ling Xiaoli, right?”
Ling Xiaoli quickly nodded.
“Yes, that’s me. Hello, Sister Mei. It’s so nice to finally meet you. You’re much younger than I imagined!”
“You certainly know how to flatter people.”
Fang Mei smiled and looked Ling Xiaoli over, clear approval in her eyes.
“Have you eaten? Why don’t we grab something at the company cafeteria first? The food there is actually pretty good.”
Ling Xiaoli obediently shook her head.
“I’ve already eaten, Sister Mei. What about you?”
“I have too. This girl is really good. She’s really good!”
The more Fang Mei spoke, the more pleased she looked, and Ling Xiaoli suddenly got a strange feeling.
It was almost as if Sister Mei wasn’t looking at an actress she managed, but at her future daughter-in-law.
Ling Xiaoli quickly shoved that ridiculous thought out of her head and gave an awkward smile.
“You’re too kind, Sister Mei.”
Fang Mei then took Ling Xiaoli to the fifty-second floor of Starlight Tower.
Floors 27 through 54 of Starlight Tower belonged to QQ Music, while floors 48 through 52 housed QQ Music’s recording studios. Several of the studios on the fifty-second floor were the most high-end ones available.
The moment Ling Xiaoli stepped inside, she was stunned. All kinds of high-end equipment and musical instruments—some she recognized and plenty she didn’t—filled her field of vision.
Ling Xiaoli felt like Liu Laolao entering the Grand View Garden.
After “Liu Laolao” spent a while taking in the “Grand View Garden,” Fang Mei didn’t send her straight into the recording studio. Instead, she pulled her aside for a chat first.
They mainly talked about Ling Xiaoli’s plans for the future, where she wanted to focus her efforts, and the new contract.
Ling Xiaoli was completely straightforward. She made it clear that she wanted to sing as well as act in movies and television dramas. She planned to develop in several areas at the same time.
As for the new contract, she only looked it over twice before signing it without hesitation.
It wasn’t quite as outrageous as that miraculous contract, but it was still a top-tier deal with a thirty-seventy split.
Fang Mei didn’t show the slightest surprise at a newcomer being given a top-tier contract, and Ling Xiaoli naturally wasn’t about to ask questions either.
Don’t worry, Lin Cheng. You’ve been doing me plenty of favors, and I know how to return them too!
Just you wait and see!
With me around, I guarantee you’ll win the woman you love sooner rather than later!
………
As long as nothing unexpected came up, Lin Cheng would arrive at the company on time every day, even when there was nothing particularly urgent for him to deal with.
Today, while he was still on his way to the company, Fang Mei suddenly called him.
“Little Lin, come up to the fifty-second floor when you get here, will you?”
Even though his father had stepped behind the scenes five or six years ago, many of the company’s old employees still liked to call him Young President Lin.
Lin Cheng didn’t mind.
“What’s up, Sister Mei? Is something wrong?”
“Ling Xiaoli will be here soon. As the big boss, shouldn’t you come up and give the new girl a little encouragement?”
………
After turning down Sister Mei’s suggestion, Lin Cheng felt strangely unsettled the entire way to the office.
When he reached the elevator and went to press a floor button, his finger hovered over 52 for a moment before finally pressing 82.
Lin Cheng closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
He had already made up his mind yesterday. He wouldn’t meet Ling Xiaoli again until he could get those troublesome thoughts of his under control.
So today, he definitely wasn’t going to see her.
As usual, Lin Cheng sat in the small lounge in his office and ate the breakfast Chen Zi’an had brought him from the company cafeteria.
He broke a youtiao in half.
……Ling Xiaoli is on the fifty-second floor today to record a song?
He dipped half of the youtiao into his soy milk.
Did Ling Xiaoli eat breakfast?
He put the soy-milk-soaked youtiao into his mouth.
She won’t have the energy to sing if she skipped breakfast. Should I ask her later?
He put the youtiao back on the plate and picked up some pickled vegetables with his chopsticks.
I kind of want to hear a live version of “Prophecy.” Why not just go see it for myself?
