Chapter 42: A Stunning Comeback

Next, the copyright website was closed, and a folder named Prophecy on the desktop was opened.

The filenames inside were all Na Na Na—TXT files, MIDI files, WMA files, MP3 files, and so on.

Ling Xiaoli casually opened two of them and displayed them to the viewers in front of the camera.

“These are all the original drafts of my composition. I changed the name at the very end. I thought Prophecy suited the song better.

“Thank you to myself. Thank goodness I saved the final version onto a USB drive. Thank goodness the thief stole the old version on my computer. And there’s also this…”

Another video file on the desktop was opened.

“I recently installed monitoring software on my computer. I originally did it just for fun, but I never expected it to capture something like this. Tsk.”

The video showed a figure approaching from a distance. After stopping for a while, the person walked up to the camera and began operating the computer.

“This was the period when I went to the bathroom. Everyone on the production crew can confirm that. To avoid affecting the filming schedule, I’ll submit the video to the police after the movie wraps. But I don’t think this person is the mastermind behind everything.”

At this point, the video ended.

Ling Xiaoli turned the phone camera back toward herself and tilted her head with a smile.

“Yuan Yuan, do you have anything to say?”

—【Holy crap! That head tilt killed me! She’s insanely handsome! Ling Xiaoli’s aura is two meters eight today! Is this really the Lili I know?】

—【No wonder Ling Xiaoli was so confident. She had prepared everything from the start! Amazing! Truly amazing!】

—【I’ve already checked. Prophecy and Na Na Na are 99% similar. Even that tiny difference makes Prophecy the more appropriate title. What a serious dereliction of duty by the Chinese Music Copyright Network!】

—【I always felt that Ling Xiaoli had set a trap. I never expected her to actually catch the prey.】

—【The best plot twist of the year!】

—【Mom, save me! A young lady is aggressively flirting with me!】

The comments were frantically praising Ling Xiaoli, but there were also one or two that stood out.

—【I’m sorry. I apologize for what I said earlier. I’m going to Yuan Yuan’s livestream right now to get justice for you!】

Although most people had been cursing her earlier, only a handful were willing to apologize.

That was the nature of netizens.

………

Yuan Yuan chatted with her viewers and fans while adjusting her sound card, planning to sing the song once more.

Yet she felt vaguely uneasy.

Suddenly!

The popularity of her livestream began rising rapidly. Before she could react, all kinds of vulgar insults started flooding across the screen.

The uneasiness in her heart instantly reached its peak.

Yuan Yuan forced an awkward smile and nervously asked everyone what was happening.

Then one of the big spenders sent her a screenshot through a private message.

The moment she saw it clearly, her face turned deathly pale.

Fortunately, her assistant reacted quickly and shut down the livestream.

……

“Yuan Yuan, didn’t you swear to me that you wrote the song yourself? What’s going on now?!”

Yuan Yuan had been livestreaming from the company. The operations director of Maoya rushed over at the first opportunity, pointing at her nose with trembling hands.

Yuan Yuan opened her mouth. Her expression became even uglier, but she could not say a single word.

Seeing her like that, the other streamers nearby who were not currently livestreaming began mocking her without restraint.

“Some people will do anything to become famous. Plagiarism would be bad enough, but to be completely nailed by the original creator herself!”

“Say a little less. Look at Yuan Yuan’s face. Heh, I’m really afraid she’ll faint.”

“I told you so. What? If you’ve got the guts, come up here and hit me!”

From this alone, it was clear that Yuan Yuan’s relationships at Maoya were even worse than Ling Xiaoli’s had been.

Ling Xiaoli merely had a bad temper. As long as no one provoked her, nothing would happen. Most of the time, Ling Xiaoli was actually quite easy to get along with.

Yuan Yuan was different. Relying on the fact that she had latched onto a company executive, she constantly made snide remarks at others, whether there was a reason or not.

Now…

Heaven’s justice always comes full circle.

When a wall falls, everyone pushes it down.
