Chapter 22: Passing the Audition and Investiture of the Gods

Su Xuan hurriedly told the people around her to stop.

Being an internet celebrity was merely a profession, and people shouldn’t be prejudiced against it.

Having more people enter the film industry would bring better development.

And so on and so forth.

……

A faint sadness appeared in Ling Xiaoli’s eyes.

Ah, this counts as diverting the enemy’s attack target and protecting me, right?

Plans really can’t keep up with changes. Looks like I don’t need to protect A-Yin anymore. Instead, I need to start protecting myself.

Ling Xiaoli glanced at Luo Zhaoyin beside her and discovered that her adorable little friend had already joined Su Xuan’s side, arguing with the people around them.

She silently sighed.

Her heart felt even more exhausted.

If Yuan Yuan, who had barely been mentioned in the original novel, was merely being sarcastic, then Su Xuan was absolutely dripping with tea.

A high-level master of the art of being fake and sweet—with phenomenal acting skills.

Ah… If I get the chance, I must tell A-Yin that this woman is no good.

Fortunately, Ling Xiaoli didn’t have to feel exhausted for too long before the auditions began.

Su Xuan was the first person called out. After that, she never returned, probably leaving directly after finishing her audition.

The intervals between candidates varied. Sometimes, before someone had even been gone for a minute, a staff member would come to call the next person.

Other times, twenty minutes would pass before the next candidate was called.

By the time it was Ling Xiaoli’s turn, more than forty minutes had passed.

Luo Zhaoyin had gone in before her. Ten minutes later, she returned with a staff member.

She only had time to tell Ling Xiaoli that the audition was very simple and that she should relax.

………

Sitting properly in front of a real director, Ling Xiaoli finally began to feel nervous.

What made her most anxious was that after she entered, Director Hu and the assistant director kept whispering to each other. Every now and then, they would glance at her.

Yet neither of them said a word to her.

Just as Ling Xiaoli was beginning to feel numb from waiting, Hu Li finally spoke.

“Ling Xiaoli, right? I’m sorry, but our film doesn’t have a suitable role for you.”

Ling Xiaoli’s heart immediately sank.

What happened? She had done absolutely nothing, yet she was already eliminated?

“Director Hu, I can play any role. Even an ordinary extra would be fine! Could you please give me another chance?”

Today’s auditions, of course, did not include extras. The roles being cast all had a substantial amount of dialogue and importance.

Nearly half of the important roles didn’t even require auditions. Hu Li had personally invited those actors.

For example, the Jade Emperor and Perfected Yuding.

But Ling Xiaoli no longer cared whether the role was an extra or not. The most important thing was getting to appear in the film!

Hearing this, Hu Li slightly furrowed his brows before turning sideways and whispering with the assistant director again.

Ling Xiaoli felt uneasy.

The fact that they’re discussing it means there’s still hope, right?

This time, Hu Li didn’t keep her waiting long.

“How about the role of the Eagle God? Would you be willing to play it?”

“I will! I can play any role!”

Hu Li nodded apologetically.

“Then it’s settled. Well, mainly because your appearance is too outstanding. You’re not suitable for the other roles in my film…”

Ling Xiaoli: ???

Is being pretty her fault, too?

And what exactly is this Eagle God character? They don’t even need me to audition for it?

Ling Xiaoli had searched for so much information about Director Hu the previous day that she already knew how he cast people. He looked at the person first and assigned a role afterward. He also had to see the actor in person—photos and videos wouldn’t do.

His first requirement was that the actor’s appearance had to match the image of the character in his mind.

As long as an actor met his standards, even if they were an obscure performer from the eighteenth tier, he would still dare to use them!

Hu Li continued,

“However, Director Zhang has recently begun preparing CCTV’s major annual production. There’s a role in it that I think would suit you very well. Once they begin casting, I can recommend you.”

Ling Xiaoli’s heart leaped with joy.

What a wonderful person! He’s actually taking the initiative to find me another role!

She hurriedly thanked him.

“Thank you, thank you, Director Hu. May I ask what Director Zhang is filming?”

“Investiture of the Gods.”
